Why Mindful Eating is Key to Emotional Wellness

As I reflect on 2020, I think about what a challenging and strange year it has been, yet I find myself focusing on the silver linings, a term that we are all tired of hearing, yet they are present in my everyday life.
This year started out with a bang for me. My businesses were flourishing and I felt content and happy with my life. Then enter COVID-19 and everything got turned upside down, fear took over, vacations got cancelled, sports, gatherings, life in general changed as we know it, and the list goes on.
But somehow I was able to find beauty in the mess of things. I began to slow down and really enjoy my family of five. I have cooked more, spent more time out in nature, created new healthy habits such as meditation and weekly meal-prep and planning, to our already healthy ways. I decluttered (which is a continual process), welcomed our new puppy Lila Rose, taken road trips, hiked, biked and walked many, many miles, had opportunities for spontaneity, hosted small outdoor gatherings, created closer connections with fewer people, and continued to grow my businesses. Many of these things I would not have had time for under “normal” circumstances. I have been writing more and I have learned so much over this past year about myself and those close to me.
I’m not going to pretend that this year has been a cakewalk for me. There have been many stressful moments, tears and tough times. Additionally, my heart goes out to so many experiencing incredible adversity, loss of loved ones, jobs, illness and so many other hardships. But mostly, I remain hopeful. Hopeful that 2021 will bring new light to these darker times. I hope that as a collective, we will all have learned from something in this past year and we can take that with us as we move forward.
